  • Highs Elegant cabin design, smart storage solutions, smooth-shifting nine-speed automatic.
  • Lows Stiff ride on optional 20-inch wheels, V-6 sounds unrefined at high revs, no wireless Android Auto.
  • Verdict The redesigned QX60 finally gives Infiniti a desirable mid-size luxury SUV to take on its European rivals.

Overview

Infiniti's mid-size three-row QX60 is all new for the 2022 model year and aims to move significantly up-market to win the hearts of premium-SUV buyers. Previewed by the QX60 Monograph concept, the 2022 QX60's fresh styling marks a subtle departure from Infiniti's current design language. The interior has undergone a more thorough transformation over the previous generation QX60, complete with more luxury and convenience features and a design that appears more upscale. Under the hood, buyers will find the same powertrain that's in the 2022 Nissan Pathfinder—the QX60's country cousin. That powertrain consists of a 295-hp 3.5-liter V-6 engine and a nine-speed automatic. The mid-size SUV market is hot and the QX60 will face stiff competition from rival SUVs such as the BMW X5, the Lincoln Aviator, and the Mercedes-Benz GLE-class, but it looks as though Infiniti has created something new and fresh while redesigning this crucial member of the brand's SUV lineup.

What's New for 2022?

The 2022 QX60 is a ground-up redesign of the brand's three-row mid-size SUV complete with more dramatic styling and a more premium cabin.

Pricing and Which One to Buy

The price of the 2022 Infiniti QX60 starts at $49,045 and goes up to $63,240 depending on the trim and options.

The Sensory trim is the model we'd suggest. It comes standard with premium features such as massaging front seats, heated second-row seats, an air purifier, wireless smartphone charging, a motion-activated power liftgate, and a 17-speaker Bose stereo system. Front-wheel drive is standard and will likely be fine for most buyers but all-wheel drive is a $2000 option.

    Engine, Transmission, and Performance

The 2022 QX60 is powered by a 295-hp V-6 engine that carries over from 2020, but Infiniti has dropped the old model's continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) in favor of a more traditional nine-speed automatic. All-wheel drive will be optional but the new QX60 will continue to ride on a front-wheel drive-based platform. The QX60 offers up to 6000 pounds of towing capacity, an increase of 1000 pounds over the outgoing 2020 model's rating. During our initial test drive of the 2022 QX60, we appreciated the new nine-speed automatic's smooth shifts and well-controlled body motions when cornering. The ride is stiffer than we expected for what otherwise is a comfy cruiser, especially on the optional 20-inch wheels. When we have a chance to take the QX60 to our test track, we'll update this story with test results.

      Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG

The EPA has given the QX60 fuel economy ratings of 21 mpg city and 26 mpg highway for front-wheel drive models; all-wheel drive drops those numbers by 1 mpg each. When we get the chance to test the new QX60 we will update this story with results from our 75-mph highway fuel-economy test route. For more information about the QX60's fuel economy, visit the EPA's website.

      Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

Although the cabin has been dramatically redesigned, the 2022 QX60 retains its three-row interior layout, which means space for up to seven passengers; the top-spec Autograph model comes with second-row captain's chairs which reduces passenger capacity to six. The luxed-up cabin is convincing, with posh materials used throughout and extra sound-deadening efforts to provide more solace from the outside world. Both front seats offer eight-way power adjustments as well as heat but Infiniti also offers niceties such as ventilated front seats, a massage feature, and heated rear seats as options. Dual-zone automatic climate control is standard as well and higher trim levels can be ordered with a three-zone system that also includes an air purifier.

      Infotainment and Connectivity

Infiniti is mercifully putting its aging dual-screen infotainment setup out to pasture with the QX60's redesign, which now uses a single 12.3-inch touchscreen that features Android Auto as well as wireless Apple CarPlay. A secondary 12.3-inch digital gauge display is optional, as is a 10.8-inch head-up display. All QX60s will also come with onboard Wi-Fi and buyers will also be able to order a 17-speaker Bose premium stereo system.

      Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

A host of driver-assistance features are standard, with more high-tech items being offered as options, including an adaptive cruise control system which utilizes data from the QX60's onboard navigation system to slow the vehicle in anticipation of upcoming curves in the road. For more information about the QX60's crash-test results, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) websites. Key safety features include:

      • Standard forward collision warning with automated emergency braking
      • Standard lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist
      • Available adaptive cruise control with semi-autonomous driving mode

      Warranty and Maintenance Coverage

All Infiniti models offer longer powertrain coverage than most rivals at six years or 70,000 miles, but the brand doesn't offer complimentary scheduled maintenance like the BMW does for the X5 or the Volvo for the XC90.

      • Limited warranty covers 4 years or 60,000 miles
      • Powertrain warranty covers 6 years or 70,000 miles
      • No complimentary scheduled maintenance
